I directed a pioneer business in the food industry.

“Can I have a bite?”

Canihaveabite was a “farm-to-home” meal prep business in Kansas City, Missouri.

A summary -

This woman-owned small business operated from 2012-2023 and originated in the kitchen home of the owner. I joined the team in 2018. I created the branding, website, photography, writing, social media content, graphic design, and marketing strategy. I also managed the daily store operations.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, canihaveabite experienced an extended 50% loss in staffing. With only two years of food industry-related experience, I successfully restructured the business model to maintain operations. I balanced all creative and strategic work with attentive customer service and long physical hours cooking in the kitchen. Sales increased 26% due to my management.

Brand strategy highlighted the business’s unique edge. Canihaveabite offered convenient, healthy meals crafted with the business’s values: high quality ingredients, environmental sustainability, and a local touch. The majority of the menu items were designed to be taken home by the customer as a frozen meal, and then reheated at home within 6 months of purchase. All menu items were served in 100% compostable packaging.

We decided to close the business in 2023. You can read my closing letter here.
